The NZSIA was established in 1971 to train, examine and certify snow sport instructors at an internationally recognised standard. As an Incorporated Society the NZSIA is a completely non-profit organisation.

With it’s strong administrative infrastructure, the NZSIA are supporting the Snow Sports Coaching NZ by providing registration for all courses and modules, and the recording of coaches’ education. In addition, the NZSIA deliver the first on-snow step in the Coach Development Programme (CDP) in the form of Ski and Snowboard Level One Instructor certifications.

Sport and Recreation New Zealand

SPARC

“Dedicated to getting New Zealanders moving”, SPARC does everything from supporting elite athletes to getting out into local communities and encouraging people to get active.

As the Crown Entity responsible for sport and recreation in New Zealand, SPARC are the senior organisation to SSNZ. They provide the Snow Sports Coaching NZ with national coaching strategy guidelines.

Furthermore, SPARC has made an investment in SSNZ to appoint a Director of Coaching and Sport Development who over sees the continued education and development of snow sport coaches.

Winter Performance Programme

Academy of Sport

“Inspiring New Zealanders through Winter Olympics, Paralympics and World Championships”, the WPP is a partnership between the New Zealand Academy of Sport South Island (NZAS SI), SPARC, and the NZ Olympic Committee. It has support and investment from both the Lion Foundation and the Caversham Foundation.

The programme is a concerted effort to primarily enhance New Zealand’s performance and profile in the Winter Olympic codes. The primary aim is to provide competitors, coaches and their respective national sport organisations with technical assistance and advice to develop high performance programmes leading to Winter Olympic qualification. The WPP provide invaluable high-performance advice and resources to the coaching initiative.

Individual Sports Steering Committees

Providing sport-specific input directly to the coaching initiative, these snow sport guiding bodies are a key element to the success of the CDP.

These committees include: Adaptive Snowsports New Zealand, New Zealand Snowboard Union, Ski Racing New Zealand, Freeski Association New Zealand, New Zealand Cross Country Ski Association, and Speed Skiing New Zealand.
