The main person responsible (and the point of contact for all) for the direction of the Snow Sports Coaching NZ is…

Adam Dooney (Director of Coaching and Sport Development)

The man at the helm of the coaching initiative, Adam Dooney is the Director of Snow Sports Coaching NZ. His responsibilities are vast and varied and include:

  • Leading the snow sport coaches education and curriculum development;
  • Communicating and liaising with the many snow sport bodies for sport-specific coaching input;
  • Course scheduling and facilitation, as well as presenter scheduling;
  • Identify opportunities for cross-sport integration, similar coach education modules, training camps and international hosting exchanges;
  • Leveraging resources and opportunities from different sport systems and the snow industry in general.

Adam comes to this role after many years of work with NZSIA, delivering and examining instructor qualifications. Since 2007, as the Technical Director for the SBINZ (NZSIA’s Snowboard Division), Adam has been involved in certification development, including the SBINZ Trainer/Examiner education and progression.

More recently Adam has been coaching Adaptive Snow Sports NZ snowboard athlete Carl Murphy. Carl represents New Zealand internationally where he has become a regular on the podium. Adam also has coaching experience outside of snow sports. He was a competitive Gymnast at a national level, eventually progressing on to coaching and embarking on his first paid employment as a coach.
