Logged shadow hours
As an almost-qualified Entry-level Coach, you now have to apply the knowledge and skills you have gained in a practical situation.
This is done primarily through the process called ‘shadowing’, where by you spend a 25 hours with a more senior coach (minimum one level above), whilst he or she is working with their athletes. This is voluntary and you will not be paid for your time.
The only exception to this rule, is if you are currently in a paid coaching position working under a more senior coach. In this case, we will allow you to monitor and track 25 paid coaching hours and use them in place of shadowing.
The shadowing process
Before starting your shadowing hours, you must have completed all generic module, the NZSIA/SBINZ Level One and the NZ Coach Level One. This is so you can apply the knowledge and skills you have gained over these modules and courses.
Finding someone to shadow
You should try to find a suitable coach to shadow by yourself. We can assist you with this, but ultimately it is down to you. If you do not know any senior coaches try contacting them through training providers and ski schools, although it is highly likely that you will meet various people along the education process.
Proof of shadow hours
The most crucial aspect of this, logging your shadow hours. If you do not do this, we will not award you with the Entry-level Coaches Certification. Please download the following form BEFORE you start the shadowing process so you understand what it is that you are logging. You may complete the form during and/or after the process, but please do so electronically (i.e. on computer) if at all possible. Details of return are on the form.
